“Don’t hurry,” Mayor Isko Moreno gives advice to the youth

“Anong nakakahiya? Nakakahiya ‘pag wala kang mapalamon ‘pag nabuntis mo ‘yan.”

  • Isko Moreno gave practical tips about love and romance at the 10th Commencement Exercises of the Mapua University.
  • He said that the graduates should not hurry about marriage and having a family.
  • The mayor also shared that he got the advice from his parents who were not fortunate enough to finish college.

Manila Mayor Isko Moreno is a well-known public servant and a former actor. Last September 19, he was the keynote speaker at the 10th Commencement Exercises of the Mapua University.

Upon giving his speech, he also gave a piece of useful advice to those who just got their diplomas and are starting a new chapter in their life.

“Don’t hurry. Use your time. Utilize it in your favor. Sayang. Enjoy,” he said.

He shared it while addressing the topic of investing in one’s career before starting a family. The mayor added that it was the advice he received from his parents, who were not fortunate enough to finish college.

“Landi, landi mo. Kere-kerengkeng ka diyan. ‘Pag nakita kitang naligaw-ligaw, hihilahin ko ‘yung buhok ng babae sa harapan ng bahay niya para ikahiya ka niya,” mimicking what his mother used to say when he was studying.

“Anong nakakahiya? Nakakahiya ‘pag wala kang mapalamon ‘pag nabuntis mo ‘yan.”

Moreno added that there’s nothing wrong with liking someone or being in a relationship, but he hopes that the graduates will first understand their situation and how things work around them.

“Walang masamang mag-ibigan. Ang masama ay hindi mo tanggapin ang reyalidad ng lipunang inyong kakaharapin.

“‘Wag muna. ‘Wag magmamadali. Iraos niyo muna ang inyong sarili,” he said.
