Menthol bubble baths reportedly cures migraines

A woman from Kentucky has attested to the power of a menthol bubble bath when it comes to relieving migraines.

On her Facebook page, a certain Jill Hamilton claimed that using Johnson’s Baby soothing vapor bath has changed her life. According to Hamilton, lathering up with the bath gel very night has cured her migraines.

She wrote: “Migraines??? A friend just shared this: I get unbearable migraine headaches… I started using this in the shower every night, I lather up really good and breathe in the smell for about 5 minutes then rinse off. And no more migraine! Try this if you get headaches constantly like I do…. It’s life changing!!”

In an interview with the Daily Mail UK, Professor Paul Goadsby, a migraine specialist at King’s College London revealed that there is evidence that the key ingredient in the product can relieve headaches.

Professor Goadsby explained that putting menthol on your head activates a family of receptors that modifies the way we feel.

He said: “Whenever you put menthol on your head and you feel cool, that’s because you are activating this receptor. And menthol activates the receptor that makes us feel cool.”

However, the migraine expert warned sufferers to consult their doctors first before replacing their medication with menthol. Although there is evidence of the link between menthol and relieving migraines, Professor Goadsby said the cause is not yet understood.
