This trick will help you fall asleep in 60 seconds

Harvard-trained physician Dr. Andrew Weil has found a foolproof way to fall asleep in under 60 seconds.

The life hack will benefit insomniacs and people who suffer from poor sleep because of anxiety, stress, and mobile devices. The lack of quality sleep and rest shortens a person’s life expectancy and puts people at risk of obesity, diabetes, and heart disease.

According to Dr. Weil, founder of the Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona, the 4-7-8 breathing technique can put a person to sleep in under a minute. By simply altering your normal breathing, you could reduce tension, calm your body and mind, and help you get your much-needed slumber.

The breathing technique, which is described as a natural tranquilizer for the nervous system, comes from yoga breathing techniques where the tip of the tongue is kept behind the upper front teeth.

“You breathe in through your nose quietly and blow air out forcefully through your mouth, making a whoosh sound,” says Dr. Weil.

Simply breathe in for four seconds, hold for seven, and breathe out for eight. Repeat the steps for about four times. It is advisable to practice the technique twice a day for six to eight weeks.
