Father seeks help from netizens to stop a fake doctor

Bernard Tan, the father of a young lady victimized by a fake doctor, has created a petition on change.org to stop “Antonia Carandang-Park from practicing as a medical doctor.” He is seeking the help of netizens to sign the petition.

According to Tan, his eldest daughter Kate, who was suffering from Hodgkins Lymphoma, sought the help of Dr. Park. The doctor earned great reviews online and was well-known for administering stem cell treatment on former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. Reports claimed that Dr. Park was capable of curing diseases including cancer and autoimmune diseases.

In August 2012, Kate had an appointment with Dr. Park at Green & Young Health & Wellness Center in Tagaytay City. After being told that the miracle doctor was capable of treating the same disease in a matter of three months, Kate agreed to undergo Dr. Park’s treatment. However, Dr. Park had one condition.

“Dr. Park accepted Kate as a patient on one condition, that Kate will not see other doctors and that she should not have treatments other than those given by Dr. Park,” Tan wrote.

Kate underwent a series of stem cell treatments two times a week for several months. Each treatment cost around P6,000 to P8,000. In an effort to support their daughter, Tan and his wife also had treatments. As a result, they shelled out P36,000 to P40,000 a week for the treatments.

But even after several months of treatment, Kate’s condition didn’t improve. It wasn’t until January 2013 that they decided to have Kate undergo traditional chemotherapy treatment. Unfortunately, Kate succumbed to cancer on July 4, 2013.

A month after Kate’s passing, Tan discovered that Dr. Park was not authorized to practice medicine in the Philippines. Because of this, Tan’s family pressed charges against Dr. Park who was arrested on May 8 in Tagaytay City.

However, Dr. Park was temporarily released after posting a P32,500 bail. Moreover, Tan revealed that Dr. Park is still giving stem cell treatments discreetly.

“Antonia Carandang-Park is not a doctor, she is a businesswoman, a con artist thriving for mere profit with absolute disregard to the harm that her actions can do to a trusting and hopeless patient. She has not shown remorse for her actions. She is even proud and arrogant. May the life of my daughter, Kate be the last to be sacrificed in the hands of Antonia Carandang-Park,” Tan wrote.

Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago Offers Help

After receiving thousands of support online, Tan’s petition caught the attention of Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago who filed a resolution for a senate inquiry in aid of legislation against Dr. Park.

Moreover, Atty. Lorna P. Kapunan volunteered to be their lawyer in the case.
