Woman from Chile carries fetus in her womb for over 60 years

Estela Meléndez, a childless woman from La Boca, Chile, was surprised to learn that she carried a fetus inside her womb for more than six decades.

After suffering from a fall, Meléndez had an X-ray examination which caused some concern. The doctors initially believed that Meléndez had a tumor in her stomach. However, after a second x-ray examination, the doctors got the biggest shock of their lives.

They decided not to remove the remains of the fetus as it posed no health risk to the elderly woman.

Meléndez, who was married to Manuel González for 74 years,  had no idea she got pregnant. In an interview with CNN, Melendez revealed that their inability to conceive a child is one of her regrets in life.

“We suffered tremendously because of this reason,” Meléndez told CNN.

Although the lump occasionally brings discomfort to Meléndez, it reminds her of her deceased husband and their longing to have a child.
