WATCH: Man trying to steal ‘tip money’ caught on CCTV

Customer theft is one of the top four causes of shrinkage (theft or loss in business) so businessmen need to know to preventing this. Having vigilant workers and a properly placed CCTV can go along way to stopping less than scrupulous clients.

A man was caught red-handed as he tried to steal from a restaurant in Iligan City. He came up to the counter and pretended to read off the menu.  There were some money trays on the counter with some tips from customers lining the counter as well.

The man attempted to distract the cashier a few times until he was able to pocket the money. Fortunately, the cashier was alert enough to see the money was missing and ask for it back. The man returned the money and continued as if nothing had happened. He casually carried on talking to the cashier until he left the restaurant.

This CCTV footage was taken from Pizarella Bistro which is owned and managed by Remi Portado. The would-be thief in the video has been identified as “Mark”, who is notorious for other thefts in Iligan City. This should serve as a reminder to all business owners and their workers to always remain vigilant.
