Family of Filipina Teen Victim of Hit-and-Run in Spain Still Seeking Justice

A year after Angelica Manongsong Dalisay died from a tragic hit-and-run accident in Gavà, Spain, no hearing has been scheduled yet for the case.

Her mother, Siony Manongsong Dalisay, is disappointed with the slow movement of the case.

“Hintay ka nang hintay, nakakasama ng loob. Gusto kong magalit pero kanino? Yun umiiyak na lang ako dahil habang nagsisindi ako ng kandila gabi-gabi gusto kong sabihin na ayan na, may nangyari na sa kaso, may nanagot na sa gumawa sa iyo, pero wala, wala akong masabi dahil wala naman talaga,” Siony told ABS-CBN News.

(You wait over and over, it’s painful. I want to get mad but to whom? I cry while lighting the candle every night. I want to tell her that the case is progressing, that someone would pay for what happened to her. But I can’t tell her those things because nothing happened.)

On May 2, 2014, Angelica was hit by a vehicle while crossing the pedestrian lane at the Avenida Joan Carles I in Barcelona, Gava with her boyfriend and son. Angelica died after sustaining injuries in the head, while her boyfriend and son were left unharmed.

Eyewitnesses claimed that the vehicle stopped but sped off after seeing what happened to Angelica.

The suspect, who is now facing homicide charges and failure to help injured persons, was allegedly busy on the phone when his vehicle struck Angelica. He also drove with an expired driver’s license and did not own the vehicle that killed the teenage Pinay.

Currently, the suspect is on bail but is not allowed to leave Spain. He is required to report to the court every Monday.

Angelica’s Last Wish

A week before the fatal accident, Angelica told her family to spend the least money possible on her burial.

Siony recounted that she and Angelica were attending a funeral when her daughter told her about her last wish: to spend less money on her and  just give everything to her son.
