India – A wedding ceremony was interrupted when police raided the temple at a village in Badwapur, Phoolpur state. The reason: Because he’s marrying a cobra!
According to Sandeep Patel, the snake was a gorgeous woman in a previous life. He also claimed it promised to tie the knot with him on Easter Saturday. He’s strongly convinced that he will also turn into a reptile following a deep trance.
Around P15,000 superstitious Hindus gathered to witness the ritual held in a remote village. The priest who administered the wedding told the crowd that the groom had shown “traits of a snake” since he was a child. “Sandeep walks, drinks and flickers his tongue just like a snake,” he said.
However, in the midst of the weird wedding, armed policemen stopped the ceremony following an information they received that there’s a very strange wedding going on in that temple.
Together with his father Dayashankar, Sandeep was also arrested for “breaching the peace”.
A local newspaper reports that the guests were very much disappointed about the wedding cancellation that they threatened to riot. In an attempt to bring order to the place again, more police were asked to disperse the people to their homes.
This wasn’t the first time this situation happened in the country. Several years ago, a woman also tied the knot with a cobra with priests chanting mantras. Although the snake did not turn into a human or she into a reptile, Bimbala Das said, “Though snakes cannot speak or understand, we communicate in a peculiar way. The cobra has never harmed me.”
