Hailstorm Hits Novaliches, Bocaue

Despite the extremely hot weather this summer season, several areas in Luzon including Novaliches, Quezon City and Bocaue, Bulacan experienced hailstorm today, according to several reports.

In a video uploaded by  Mr. Edison Avendano on YouTube, bits of ice  accompanied by heavy rain and strong wind were seen pouring from the sky in in Brgy. Kaligayahan in Novaliches, Quezon City.

According to Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), hailstorms are normal events in the country. Ice crystals in cumulonimbus clouds which didn’t evaporate cause such phenomenon.

While such occurrence may not seem very common in the Philippines, areas like Rodriguez town in Rizal province, Compostela valley, and Makati City experienced hailstorm just last year.

On Tuesday, April 21, PAGASA warned against a possible thunderstorm in Metro Manila and several parts of Luzon.

According to PAGASA weather forecaster Buddy Javier, thunderstorms are common even during dry season and may persist for up to two hours.

Affected areas include Quezon City, Marikina, and North Caloocan in Metro Manila; Antipolo, Rodriguez, and San Mateo in Rizal; Norzagaray, Angat, San Jose del Monte, San Ildefonso, San Miguel in Bulacan; Calauan, San Pablo, and Bay in Laguna; Candaba and Arayat in Pampanga; San Marcelino, Castillejos, and Subic in Zambales;as well as Gapan, San Isidro, Cabiao in Nueva Ecija.
