Premature Baby Comes Out Completely Encased in Amniotic Sac

The unusual entry of Silas Johnson into the world has left doctors at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center astounded. Delivered via Cesarean section in Los Angeles California at 26 weeks, Johnson was still completely enveloped in his amniotic sac.

Because it was a very rare medical case, one of his doctors took his photo while inside the transparent watery membrane, according to a report by CBS. In the picture, his hands were pressed against the amniotic sac.

Johnson was still getting oxygen from the placenta until the watery bag was punctured to allow him to breathe oxygen from the environment.

Neonatologist Dr. William Binder with more than 10 years of experience in delivering babies described the rare moment as something he would never forget.

“It really felt like a moment of awe… and one that will stick in my moment for some time.”

The baby’s mother Chelsea was totally clueless of Johnson’s one-of-a-kind coming to the world until she saw her son’s photos. She considers her son as a “special little baby”.

The case of Johnson’s strange birth delivery which is dubbed as “en caul” is usually harmless. Babies born still completely enclosed in amniotic sacs are believed to have good fortune in most cultures throughout history.
