I looked down and my daughter’s passport had a picture of what looked like a young boy of Asian descent.
In time for their family’s trip to Lapland this holiday, Amy Haddley processed and applied for her 3-year-old daughter’s passport.
However, when the passport arrived to their home in Whiston, Merseyside, the 30-year-old mom was shocked to see a little boy’s face staring back at her when she opened the little booklet.
“I was absolutely mortified. I looked down and my daughter’s passport had a picture of what looked like a young boy of Asian descent. I just couldn’t believe that they could have made such a huge mistake.”
Feeling completely panicked, she called the passport office right away. “The passport office told me I had to make another appointment which would take two weeks,” she said.
Worried she would have to cancel their trip, she decided to just go straight to the office and speak to someone directly.
Eventually, the mother of two was able to place her daughter’s real picture on the passport. However, she was given no apology or explanation as to why and how a boy’s picture got there.
“I just cannot see a similarity between them at all and just can’t understand how this happened,” Amy said.
She also explained that she panicked thinking someone else could have Elsie’s photo on their passport and she could even be a victim of identity theft.
When her daughter’s passport arrived, she was thankful that Elsie’s photos had been sent along with it.
“I was relieved to find all of the pictures had been sent back,” she said.
According to a Home Office spokesman, “Errors of this kind are extremely rare and are investigated immediately.”
The customer services also called Amy to “apologize for any inconvenience caused”.
