Woman Tries To Smuggle Cash Into The Country, Conceals 55,000 Euro In Her Stomach

Dominican authorities received a tip that a woman flying from Belgium, will arrive in the country with cash in her stomach. They immediately handled the situation and arrested a Spanish national at the Dominican Republic airport.

An x-ray result confirmed that the stomach of the 40-year-old woman was filled with 16 capsules containing 55,500 euros (more than $70,000). Aside from that, 54,602  euros ($69,000) were also found in her luggage.

All in all, the equivalent of the euros she tried to smuggle into the country amounts to $140,000.

Travelers are not allowed to carry a maximum of $10,000 without reporting it.

In an interview with Dario Medrano, spokesperson of the National Drug Control Agency, the money the woman was trying to smuggle is probably connected to drug trafficking.

Dominican authorities were used to catch illegal smugglers with drugs in their abdomen. They admitted this is the first time they have detained someone who was hiding money in the stomach.
