Forty years after having an acupuncture treatment, a Chinese man was found to have an acupuncture needle inside his stomach.
Doctors discovered an acupuncture needle inside Xu Long’s body after he complained of chest and back pains. Initially, the doctors thought the pain was brought about by old age. Later on, they decided to perform an x-ray when the pain worsened.
Xu Long said: “At first, I didn’t feel anything, my stomach pain had gone and all was good. But over the years I began to feel increasing discomfort in my back and in my chest.”
He added: “They told me there was a foreign body in my stomach and I just panicked thinking it was cancer.You can imagine my shock and relief when they told me it was the acupuncture needle.”
In 1974, Xu Long received an acupuncture treatment to cure his stomach ache. Long, who was serving the military at that time, was advised by his army doctor to consider alternative therapy which is acupuncture.
“The army doctor offered to perform acupuncture on me and it worked. The pain stopped immediately.”
He also said that he only had acupuncture while he was in the army.
“The only time I ever had acupuncture was while in the army. I recall I had an on-going stomach ache at the time which hurt for two days and two nights.”
According to Dr. Ye Lin, the doctor who performed the surgery, the needle became very thick and turned black due to oxidation.
The doctors also said that the needle has moved to different positions in Xu Long’s body before its discovery.
Xu Long said that he has not experienced pain since the removal of the needle.
