Man With Dwarfism Shares What It’s Like to be ‘Little Person’ in New York City

Jonathan Novick, 22, has a type of dwarfism called achondroplasia, wanted to show the world what life is like in his shoes.

Because of his height, he’s often the butt of cruel jokes and obviously gets stared at on the New York City subway system. Jonathan Novick believes that people just don’t have the vocabulary to talk about dwarfism correctly. In an effort to make people understand what the world is like from his point of view, Novick created a documentary entitled, “Don’t Look Down on Me.”

The six-minute video shows the kinds of reactions he inspires in strangers while walking around the Big Apple – people taking pictures of Novick, a young girl asking “What is he?” and more than one person mistaking him for a cast member of “Little People, Big World.” He wanted to share this video so that instead of telling people about his condition and his life, he could start showing them.

“The next time you see someone who is different than you, think about what their day might be like,” Novick says in the video. “Think about all the events of their life leading up to that point, and think about their day – and think about what part of their day you want to be.”
