People these days go on social media to show their appreciation for somebody they know on their special day.
Richie Castillo, a netizen, took it to another level.
It was Richie’s dad’s 50th birthday. She expressed how proud she is of her dad for reaching this milestone, given that he suffers from Down Syndrome. People with this condition usually have shorter lifespans compared to the average.
“You turn 50 today and I am so blessed that you continue to live such a long and beautiful life. Doctors are still amazed by it! I want the whole world to know how proud I am that you are my dad.”
She detailed how she was bullied back in grade school because of how her dad looked different from the average individual. The term ‘abnormal’ was often thrown at her.
Richie always ended up confused as she did not understand the whole tragedy of the situation at first. All she saw was her dad, nothing more, nothing less.
As she grew older, she finally had an understanding of why she was picked on, and that made her a ‘coward’.
“I didn’t understand why they were making fun of me and calling me abnormal. I understood this later on and it made me a coward. But you deserve more than the coward daughter that I am. You deserve love.”
She went on and said that her dad is the strongest person out there as he would never complain about surgeries, getting poked by needles on a regular basis, and being on dialysis.
“You are the strongest because after all those surgeries, procedures and nights at the hospital, you managed to say, ‘Wa ko mahadlok mamatay kay ni salig ko sa Ginoo (I’m not afraid because I trust in the Lord).'”
Richie also detailed how her dad has never been afraid of anything, but she would break down every time she saw him suffering from pain.
“Hearing those words ‘Kapoy na. (I’m tired)’ or ‘Sakit kaayo. (It really hurts)’ made me cry for days and I couldn’t bear going back to the hospital anymore.
“If there is one thing I regret, it is hiding you from my life because I’m still the same little kid who was afraid of getting bullied.”
She goes on to mention that she admires her dad for his faith in his God and his ability to put a smile on everyone’s face.
Her post almost has 160k likes.
“Happy birthday to your dad! He looks dashing in a tux. I hope his health improves and his smile continues to brighten everyone’s day.”
“Happy 50th birthday to your dad!! May God continue to bless him and heal him in Jesus’ mighty name!”
“Happy birthday Daddy❤️ you are created to be a blessing & an inspiration to many”
“Beautifully written, Chin! Happy birthday, Uncle Richard! “
“thanks for sharing this mam. I always miss my Papa. He’s now in heaven but still I’m in pain because I will never see him again. I miss you Papa”
Marriage is a bond where two people are bound to love each other for eternity, and religion is a belief of faith to one supernatural being they call GOD. With two people who love each other, despite having different religions, was blessed with respect on their different beliefs.
Both Christian and Muslim religions strictly follow their belief and practices that sometimes lead to misunderstanding and arguments. Some would have avoided having a relationship with those from other religions, because one must sacrifice to which belief should be followed.
Unlike this couple, whose belief was taken over by love after many years of relationship, and finally got married.
Twitter user @itsairidesu posted on twitter the story of her sister’s wedding to her long-time Muslim boyfriend. What was unusual is that they both held Islam and Catholic marriage ceremonies. The couple received so much respect that both families have decided to unite, as she also wished that the world could do the same.
My sister got married to her long-term Muslim boyfriend yesterday and we held both Islam and Catholic marriage ceremonies and I'm so happy that there was so much respect from both sides and I just wish the world could do the same.

Conflicts among religious denominations, especially Catholics and Muslims, have been one of the problems not only in our country, but also the whole world. Because of this conflict, many civilians have lost their loved ones and home.
And you know what makes it even better? It's knowing that my dad and the groom's father, both known to be strict with their respective religious practices, agreed to compromise for the wedding of their children. And that's a win for love, if you ask me.

Though the government is already having their blueprint to solve this conflict, until now, it hasn’t been agreed upon and, thus, have not united in peace.

The wedding of Airi’s sister gives us hope that someday both religions would learn to compromise with each other, and respect each other’s belief for the love of its people.

Ajel Lacerona posted on her Facebook account last March 9th about her collection of their funniest conversations she had with her father – Ramil Lacerona.
Their conversations always made them laugh whenever one of them starts to crack a joke, and their day would not end without her Dad’s jokes.
Some of the conversations were made back when her father was working abroad, and some were the recent ones.
Along with the photos she attached on her post, she said that her father’s humor was one of the reasons why she is truly proud of him.
The netizens were amazed with how consistent his father was in their witty conversation.
Scientists at the University of Michigan have suggested that a man’s testosterone’s level could provide a glimpse into his potential parenting skills.
While testosterone levels can affect a man’s sex drive and other health factors like baldness, it could also tell how good a father he will be, based on research published at the Developmental Psychobiology section.
In the study, researchers examined 175 men whose partner was pregnant with their second child. To evaluate the father-baby interaction, hormone tests via saliva samples were collected.
The father and infant were then asked to participate in a videotaped activity wherein the child was to be isolated from the father for a short period of time and then later reunited. During this activity, infants are expected to become visibly upset as they look for their fathers during isolation. Meanwhile, they are assumed to seek comfort from their fathers upon reunion.
According to the study’s first author Patty Kuo, the father’s testosterone level and empathy for babies when watching them in a distressed state determine their response.
For instance, men experience a decline in testosterone levels when they empathize with the baby, which then facilitates a nurturing response. Meanwhile, men experience an increase in testosterone levels when they find the cries as annoying and feel they are unable to comfort the child, which then facilitates a negative or intrusive response to the baby.
“For parents, infant cries are strong stimuli and can often elicit multiple types of emotional responses, including empathy, annoyance or aggravation,” explained Kuo.
To measure parental behaviors, fathers and infants were asked to complete a second task involving a three toys in separate boxes, each with an instruction card.
In each task, fathers were asked to teach a child a certain activity involving each toy. Scientists then observed whether the fathers were sensitive or intrusive during the three tasks.
“Men with larger declines in testosterone during the separation task were more sensitive fathers during the interaction,” Kuo said.
It was also observed that fathers of daughters were more sensitive compared to fathers of boys.
Lead study investigator Dr. Brenda Volling pointed that declines in testosterone will always be linked to “good fathering.”
“Perhaps increases in men’s testosterone may be necessary to protect the infant from harm in some situations,” Volling said.
Previous studies have established that sensitive and responsive fathering is linked to a child’s social, cognitive, and emotional development.
Singer Kai Honasan made her mark in the music industry after qualifying in the ABS-CBN hit reality singing competition The Voice. Her sweet voice definitely caught the attention of all four judges and her unique style of singing captured the hearts of many Filipino fans. But her relationship with her famous father, Senator Gringo Honasan, who accompanied her during her blind auditions, remained a mystery until Kai decided to reveal their unique story in her blog.
It’s no secret to the public that Sen. Honasan, a former member of the military and a politician, spent years behind the bars for being involved in coup attempts. A rebel in the eyes of many, Honasan was not always there for his daughter during her growing up years.
Like most young girls who grew up without their fathers, Kai longed for a father figure especially during important events in her life particularly her high school graduation. Of course, Sen. Honasan’s circumstances at that time didn’t allow him to be there for his youngest child.
“How dare he skip MY graduation? How dare he not stop his world for such a significant moment in MY life? Of course, during this time I was only 17 and had to accept a different reality: my dad was in hiding, on the run from the government. How could I compete? My dad was disliked and painted as a coward but I promise you, absolutely no one could’ve hated him more than I did at that very moment,” Kai wrote.
Months after her high school graduation, fate reunited Kai and her father. At that time, Honasan was caught and detained in Sta. Rosa, Laguna. This allowed Kai and her family to spend time with Honasan on weekends and on special occasions. Despite Honasan’s efforts to reconnect with her, Kai still refused to warm up to him.
“It didn’t matter. All that mattered was he hurt me. I wanted to make sure he felt it — and he did.”
When Honasan was finally released and won the senatorial seat in 2013, it gave him the opportunity to be there for his daughter. Kai, on the other hand, had the chance to get to know her father.
“During this time I was getting to know this guy, I found myself sympathizing with him for the first time. I learned how to be grateful. I still had a roof over my head, food on my plate, money for tuition and a car to drive myself to and from school — he never abandoned us. I only believed that because it was the easier choice. Holding on to my anger towards him made me realize how selfish I was.”
Most young ladies wouldn’t probably seek love advice from their dads but this is what Kai exactly did after experiencing her first real heartbreak. But instead of comforting her, Honasan gave her a strategic advice to move on.
“He sat across me and asked, ‘What do you do next?’ He began to enumerate steps, as if we were planning a highly classified covert operation. ‘Never show anger publicly.’ he said. ‘And always, always choose to be kind.’”
During Kai’s The Voice Blind Audition, Honasan was finally there for his daughter, beaming with pride. Although Honasan missed many of Kai’s important milestones, his presence on that day probably made Kai the happiest daughter on the planet.
“Hopefully, this compensates for missing your graduation,” Honasan told Kai.
