Beloved comedian Robin Williams took his own life in August 2014. He started his career as a stand-up comic and is credited with sparking what is known as San Francisco’s comedy renaissance. In the photo above, Williams is seen at the last social gathering he ever attended.
This was taken at Pennsylvania State Treasurer R. Budd Dwyer’s final press conference in 1986. He had been convicted of corruption and took his life in front of the media before officers could remove him from office. He offed himself not out of guilt, but by the act of taking his life even before he could be fired, he ensured that the dependents he’d leave behind would get his state pension.
