Valenzuela City is now using the concept of ‘mobile palengke’ after Pasig City has seen success with it.
Valenzuela City Mayor Rex Gatchalian said they started using theirs on Saturday attributing the great idea to Pasig City’s Mayor Vico Sotto.
He went on Twitter to praise his fellow mayor.
The only difference is that Pasig City uses trucks as their mobile palengkes while Valenzuela uses e-tricycles, since the city has narrow roads.
Every day, people are gathered at grocery stores which goes against the practice of social distancing, and the mobile palengke is a creative way to prevent this from happening constantly.
Sotto admits that Pasig also takes ideas from Valenzuela to make things easier for the people.

Both mayors do not require citizens to show a quarantine pass because they think it’s useless.
On March 31, Pasay City Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano decided to do something similar with the other cities. Pasay City now has ‘rolling stores’ which makes it easier for citizens to buy goods at affordable prices.
The project is in partnership with the Department of Agriculture with the aim of helping families during this trying time.
The rolling stores will be of big help to 201 different barangays in Pasay.
“Ang mga rolling stores na ito ay lilibot sa lahat ng 201 barangays ng Pasay city upang magbenta sa ating mga residente ng mga sariwa at masustansyang pagkain at iba pang essential items sa presyong mas mababa kaysa sa mabibili sa mga supermarkets at grocery stores. Ito rin ay isang paraan upang ang ating mga kababayan ay hindi na pupunta pa sa malayong palengke o tindahan, at mas maipatutupad pa natin ang ‘stay at home’ policy dahil mababawasan din ang kanilang paglabas ng bahay at pagbyahe,” said Emi.
Rolling stores will basically be jeepneys that can get through small roads, and will be available from 8 am to 5 pm.
Olongapo City has stepped it up when Mayor Rolen Paulino Jr. decided to spread wet markers (talipapa) across the city to avoid making people gather just to purchase goods.
Other cities have also opted for the mobile palengke concept.
Mayor Oscar Malapitan of Caloocan City has 25 jeepneys roaming around the city to sell vegetables and rice, and he calls it the Jeepalengke.
“Mas murang di hamak ang presyo sa Jeepalengke kesa sa palengke. Isa pa, sa Jeepalengke nasisigurado ang social hygiene, social distancing.”
The city government also helps out the jeepney drivers who have nothing. The farmers are guaranteed to make profits from this project. The jeepalengke will be roaming from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. and from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
“Ang mga produktong ito ay galing sa ating masisipag na magsasaka. Ang lahat ng pera na mapagbebentahan ng mga produktong ito ay ibibigay rin sa mga magsasaka,”
In Calapan City in Oriental Mindoro, Mayor Arnan Panaligan launched the PUI, short for Palengkeng Umi-Ikot which sells fish, meat, vegetables, and groceries.
Netizens praised Mayors Sotto and Gatchalian for the “kopyahan” that they are doing for the betterment of the citizens.
