Vice Ganda is under fire from some supporters of former President Rodrigo Duterte after making pointed remarks about the ex-leader during the first night of the ‘Super Divas’ concert with Regine Velasquez at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on August 8.
In a parody of the viral “Jet2holiday” TikTok sound, the Kapamilya comedian-host referenced Duterte’s controversial “jet ski promise,” mentioned the DDS (Diehard Duterte Supporters), and ended with an impersonation of the former president—drawing laughter from much of the audience.
“Nothing beats a jet ski holiday! Ride now from Manila to the West Philippine Sea by jet ski. Get unlimited water bombing from Chinese vessels and a free trip to The Hague by the ICC. Promo applies to DDS only; pinklawan and BBMs are prohibited. ‘Wag niyo kong subukan, mga pu****i** niyo!” Vice said during the skit.
The joke was a nod to Duterte’s 2016 campaign claim that he would ride a jet ski to the Spratly Islands to plant the Philippine flag—a statement he later admitted was a “pure joke.”
Duterte is currently detained at the International Criminal Court in The Hague over alleged crimes against humanity linked to his administration’s drug war.
Not everyone found the bit funny. A Facebook user identifying as a Davaoeño publicly appealed to the Davao City government to declare Vice persona non grata.
“As a Davaoeño, I am appealing to the City Government of Davao to declare Vice Ganda a persona non grata in Davao City. Please lang!” the user wrote on August 9.
The call sparked a flurry of reactions, with some Duterte loyalists supporting the move while others defended the comedian. Facebook page Proud Bisaya also backed the suggestion, and a few netizens even proposed extending the declaration to all Cebuano-speaking regions.
British national Malcolm Conlan, a known Duterte supporter with a Filipina wife, likewise posted an open letter condemning Vice’s skit, calling it “inappropriate” and “in poor taste.”
Duterte hails from Davao City, where his children have continued the family’s political legacy—Vice President Sara Duterte, 1st District Rep. Paolo Duterte, and incumbent Mayor Baste Duterte.
