Aiai delas Alas calls for prayer brigade amidst controversial Pura Luka Vega performance

Aiai delas Alas calls for a prayer brigade for 8 days in response to an act performed by a drag queen.

Kapuso comedienne Aiai delas Alas is one of the Catholics who posted a call from the Cubao Office of Exorcism for fervent prayers for 8 days starting today until next week.

One of the main reasons for this call is what they describe as “reparation for the desecration of this prayer” in the viral video that circulated two weeks ago.

She added, “ROMANS 12:19 Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord.”

In a report by JP Soriano on “24 Oras” last Thursday (July 13), CBCP spokesperson Fr. Jerome Secillano said that the performance is a mockery of religion.

“The religious elements or sacred elements of religion should not be used for secular purposes,” he said. “In the dancing, merrymaking, and performance, people were screaming, and it was being videotaped.”

“It’s bordering on profanity and even blasphemous, a sacrilegious act,” he added.

He also expressed disappointment in the way the prayer was sung. “That is the prayer taught by Christ himself, so it should not be used casually, where you dance and entertain people,” he said.

“Freedom of expression is not absolute; if you’re adversely affecting the other party, then you should tone yourself down,” he added.

Pura Luka Vega said that her “intent was to embody a version of Christ that is one with the queer audience.”

According to the drag queen, the “Our Father” remix was not meant to be disrespectful, and that the song is her way to reconcile her Catholic faith with her queerness, and performing it in public is an “embodiment of God’s love for all.”

“I just want to create a narrative that despite all of these, Jesus, as the embodiment of God’s love for all, does not forget about the oppressed, including the LGBTQIA+ community,” she added.

Pura Luka Vega was among the cast of the first season of “Drag Den Philippines,” where she placed eighth.
