Panglao mayor to investigate alleged overpricing of food in Virgin Island

In an interview, Arcay said he’ll get to the bottom of the issue before making a comment.

Panglao mayor Edgardo “Boy” Arcay will attempt to visit the “Virgin Island” to find out about allegations of overpriced food.

On August 1, netizen Vilma Uy posted a photo of a receipt showing her party’s order amounting to P26,100.

But all they did was order the usuals. On top of that, the soft drinks totaled P1,300.

Netizens couldn’t believe what they saw. They knew that Uy and her companions got stiffed in broad daylight.

The rest of the orders include Abalone that cost P2,500, tinolang isda for P1,800, kinilaw’ng isda for P3,000, sinugba’ng isda for P2,500, scallops for P3,000, oyster (P3,000), squid (P2,500), lato (P800), baby squid (P1,500), sea urchin (P2,300), banana (P900), soft drinks (P1,300), and beer (P1,000).

In an interview, Arcay said he’ll get to the bottom of the issue before making a comment.

“It could be a black propaganda to harm our administration. It could also be true. That’s why I want to know what is true.”

“We don’t even know how many they have in total. How much food they ordered and the other data. That’s why it’s better for me to go there so I will know the truth,” he said.

Uy claimed that 13 other people also ate at the location, but one netizen said only 24 people were present. The netizen said the photos Uy posted were actually the leftovers.

Arcay said the group should have reported the overpricing to authorities instead of making it a big deal on Facebook.

Before Arcay was elected mayor, the food prices on the Virgin Island in Balicasag Island were already subject to criticism.
