Tale of Two Rallies: Leni Robredo and Bongbong Marcos draw contrasting crowd sizes in Catarman

The crowd at political rallies is a strong indicator of a candidate’s popularity.

In terms of crowd estimates, Robredo’s grand rally at the University of the Eastern Philippines grounds was well-attended–with 10-times more people than that of Marcos Jr.

The recent mammoth political rallies of various presidential aspirants like Vice President Leni Robredo and Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr.–have reflected on the opinion poll numbers.

Between Robredo and the Marcos Jr–the former seemed to have benefitted more even if Robredo’s recent large-scale political rallies have attracted more Filipinos to back her presidential campaign.

The stark difference between Marcos and Robredo, in their capacity to muster many people in one place, was never more evident when they both held their campaigns in the same venue in Catarman, Northern Samar.

VP Leni Robredo held her Northern Samar grand rally at the University of Eastern Philippines Catarman campus grounds on May 28, 2022.

According to local police estimates, more than 73,000 Kakampinks flocked the venue, despite the heavy downpour of rain before Robredo’s arrival.

During the event, 21 of Northern Samar’s mayors committed their support for the Leni-Kiko tandem, and rival political clans Daza and Ongchuans were also present.

Yesterday, April 8, was BBM-Sara’s turn to stake their claim to dominance on the province’s voters.

However, they failed to meet that goal as only 7,000 supporters showed up for the event. Comparing that to Robredo’s crowd, it dwarfed the Marcos-Duterte tandem.

During the rally, Marcos Jr, reiterated his presidential campaign’s core message, and that is unity. Present during the event, were senatoriables, Robin Padillia, Miguel Zubiri, Rodante Marcoleta, Jinggoy Estrada, and Harry Roque.

Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez also graced the event. Marcos’ s vice-presidentiable, Sara Duterte, however, missed the rally. She sent senatoriable Ronald de la Rosa, instead.
