LOOK: Netizens worry over politicians’ premature moves for elections, blast officials who start campaign a year ahead

In 2020, most of the cases of COVID-19 were concentrated in the National Capital Region until Go decided to ‘help-out using his Balik-Probinsya Program. The program allowed those displaced by the pandemic to go home to their provinces without spending money for testing, transportation, and accommodation. Go’s name would rank high in surveys done asking respondents who they would vote for President and Vice President in 2022.

Netizens continue to show disdain toward politicians, who already began their campaign efforts, almost a year from the 2022 national elections.

This sentiment has reached its current fever pitch as one netizen shared this photo to ExplainED, an online news network started by campus journalists in 2020.

The image, shared by Netizen Jem Rosalin, saw a tarpaulin of Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte with the texts “Run Sara Run and smeared with what seems to be mud or dirt.

“I captured the photo last March 15. Last March 12, I saw the same poster, but it was clean and I think it was just placed there that day or the day before,” Rosalin told ExplainED.

Other installed campaign posters of the Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte are distributed and posted across the country, including as far north as Pampanga.

Recent photos [mostly] come from Laguna and Iloilo.

One Netizen even pointed out how the group who is calling for the Davao City mayor to run for President did not adhere to health protocols.

Sara Duterte has since brushed off any attempts at convincing her to run for the Presidency in 2022, with her father, President Rodrigo Duterte [even went on television]– to discourage his daughter from running.

Another Netizen would share how Sen. Christopher ‘Bong’ Go’s initiative allowed the pandemic as an opportunity or venue to reach provinces outside of the Greater Manila Area.

Rumors of Go wanting to run for President in 2022 would start when Duterte started addressing him as ‘Presidente’ during an official event in Tacloban City.

Photos of Go’s alleged PR stunt would also make rounds on social media after Netizens pointed out how he was not following health protocols by not wearing a face shield.

This, however, seems to be nothing new to Filipinos.

Early in December 2020, face shields were distributed in Camarines Sur with photos of the Villafuertes either on the boxes or on the face shields themselves.

Politicians were also known to distribute calendars for the succeeding year to their constituents.

There is hope for Filipinos.

Leaders like the beloved Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto refused to have his name in any projects completed during his term.

He would also remind Filipinos not to feel like they owe anything to the officials who have projects or programs that benefit them.

“Laging tandaan na wala kayong utang na loob kahit kanino—lalo na sa pulitiko—dahil pera ito ng taumbayan,” Sotto said in a speech to student beneficiaries back in November 2020.
