South Korea Bans Selling Of Selfie Sticks; Offenders Face Imprisonment and 30M Won Fine

The trend for trying to get the perfect selfie or groupie is now possible, thanks to this small, articulated monopod called selfie stick. While many people enjoy this piece of equipment, sellers use this opportunity to generate income as well.

However, the government of South Korea recently announced its plans to sue retailers of these extension handles.

To be clear, they are into those who are marketing uncertified selfie sticks.Selfie-Stick

Just a week ago, the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning said they are searching for unauthorized bluetooth equipped selfie sticks because it has not been properly tested yet, which will cause other electronics to malfunction. All bluetooth devices must be certified for national use under the ‘Wireless Telegraphy Act’, according to the authorities.

Offenders face fines of up to 30 million won or £17,000 and 3 years imprisonment.

Meanwhile, several citizens believe this decision is just a government attempt to intervene with their online practice. This is due to last September’s news about the government leading a cyber investigation team which many feared officials were accessing private messages on their KakaoTalk accounts.

  1. The South korean government is reacting too much to the trends of new technology for an obvious financial reason.they know that this small stick will become a hit in the market so as early as possible they try to get hold of it to fill up its coffer. if they are afraid or concern about the safety then regulate it and set up safety standards for public use.
Banning this small equipment doesn’t help at all instead public perception will tell the authorities are stupid childish cunt.
