Cavite 4th District Representative Kiko Barzaga made a surprising confession during an exclusive interview with Boy Abunda on ‘The Interviewer’ on The Boy Abunda Talk Channel on YouTube.
When asked about his current relationship status, the 27-year-old lawmaker said he is currently single but casually dating.
“No, too busy for that, but I do casually date girls from time to time, like twice, three times a week,” Barzaga said. “No girlfriend at this point. No serious relationship. But I am seeing girls. I am having my fun,” he added with a laugh.
Barzaga also admitted that his increased visibility in politics and social media has led to more people reaching out to him — including members of the LGBTQIA+ community.
“Yes, but if I am being perfectly honest, majority of those messaging me are from the LGBT community, which I welcome. But I have to always explain to them that I’m straight and I don’t participate in that,” he shared.
When Abunda asked, “Niligawan ka na ng bakla?” the congressman hesitated before candidly revealing an unexpected dating experience.
“I always, I mean always say no except… may time dati na nakipag-date ako tapos hindi ko pala alam na transgender. Nalaman ko lang after, wala naman nangyari sa akin, but it’s like a casual date tapos malalaman ko from her friend na transgender. It’s a very funny story, but not really one I’d like to say in front of everyone,” Barzaga admitted.
Despite the revelation, Barzaga was quick to show respect toward the LGBTQIA+ community, clarifying that he harbors no ill feelings.
Earlier in the interview, the young congressman also clarified the nature of his frequent social media appearances with women, saying: “I am having my fun, hindi yung sa pictures-pictures. Those are complete professionals. That’s part of their job kasi parang mga influencer din sila tapos yun ang mga picture, photo ops nila.”
