Former Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque has weighed in on the controversy surrounding the so-called “nepo babies”—children of politicians and contractors flaunting extravagant lifestyles on social media—amid allegations of corruption in flood control projects.
In a Facebook post on Friday, August 29, Roque did not mince words, calling the spectacle “stomach-churning.”
Roque contrasted their displays of wealth with the struggles of ordinary Filipinos.
He added that what made the situation worse was how these individuals seemed more eager to flaunt their luxuries than reflect on their source.
His remarks come as public outrage continues to mount over reports of anomalous flood control contracts and the flashy social media posts of political scions. Netizens have dubbed them “nepo babies,” a label that has since become shorthand for privilege inherited from political dynasties and government-linked wealth.
