Mike Enriquez back to work in GMA Network—survives kidney transplant

“Maraming Pilipino ang walang kalaban-laban simply because wala silang pera and pag pinagdaan mo, anong pinag daanan ko marerealize mo how good God was to me and how I should return… and how I should pay it forward. ”

The veteran television anchor and radio broadcaster of GMA News, Mike Enriquez, is back to work after successfully undergoing a kidney transplant in December 2021.

In an interview, Mike shared that he went through a lot, and it was a difficult experience for him; aside from the actual procedure, he was in isolation for three months to avoid infection. He also encourages those who might or who’ll be experiencing something similar.

“Ang maishashare ko lang sa mga dadaan sa pinagdaanan ko is keep the faith. Never lose faith and I tell my friends and my classmates two things that you’ll need —  prayer and humor. Kung masyado kang seryoso sa buhay mo, walang mangyayari sayo and so far it has worked for me” he explained.

When asked about some important reflections that he wished to share, the multi-awarded anchor said that he is still in the process of reflection and discernment, especially on his future, career, and life. According to him, he promised to himself at the start of his surgery and isolation to take a serious look at his life and career.

He revealed, “Is it time to turn off the microphone? Is it time to not turn off the microphone completely but to lessen, and I will repeat, I am still in the process of making that discernment”.

One of his reflections made him realize that life is hard, especially for those who cannot afford it.

Moving forward to a new beginning, in fact, Mike and his friends are planning to organize a group with advocacy to make dialysis and kidney procedures affordable for Filipinos.

“Maraming Pilipino ang walang kalaban-laban simply because wala silang pera and pag pinagdaan mo, anong pinag daanan ko marerealize mo how good God was to me and how I should return… and how I should pay it forward. So, I will be meeting with our group and figure out ways and means of helping our needy brothers and sisters who need dialysis; who needs kidney procedures but cannot have it because they cannot afford it, and it breaks my heart when people come to me asking for help”, he revealed during the interview.

In 2018, the news anchor also underwent a heart bypass operation. This was his second major operation, and he survived again.

What’s next for Mike Enriquez?

The veteran host revealed that he would be back on March 28, 2022, on his programs on DZBB from 7:00- 9:00 am from Monday to Friday and then in the evening for 24oras which Mel Tiangco has joined Mike since 2004. He will also continue the investigative docudrama, Imbestigador every Saturday.

And in time for the election, Enriquez revealed that he’s in touch with the producers for this huge and credible election coverage.
