- Travel vlogger confronted a father who judged her as a Pinay gold digger
- She said to the father that maybe one day his children would also have a relationship with a foreigner
- She has said that there are a lot of people who are judgemental when they see a Filipina in a relationship with a foreigner
Some people have the unfortunate mentality that when a Pinay has a relationship with a foreigner, said Pinay is only doing so as a way to get out of poverty.
A model and a travel vlogger named Patrice Averilla posted on her Twitter account how she reacted when she overheard a father telling his kids, “Isa na naman pinay ang naka ahon sa kahirapan,” while looking at her.
Seeing the man looking at her while saying those words, Patrice wasn’t able to hold herself back and she confronted the man and said, “Sorry po, pareho kami di ganun kayaman dahil sponsored kami pareho dito.”

She also advised the man not to teach his children that having a relationship with a foreigner means a quick way out of poverty.
“Tsaka wag mo turuan mga anak mo ng ganiyan baka magkajowa din sila ng Afam.”
Averilla is in relationship with Martin Solhaugen who is a Norwegian YouTube vlogger. Both love doing travel blogs and already have thousands of subscribers on their respective YouTube Channels.
This wasn’t the first time that Averilla was the subject of such prejudice. Every time she is with her boyfriend, a lot of people would stare at her with the same knowing looks.
This is not the first time this happened. I get a lot of stares whenever i’m with Martin. I know sa sarili ko that we ALWAYS SPLIT THE BILL pero syempre di nila nakikita yun. Di ko sure dahil babae ba ako or kayumanggi ako eh mukha na ko golddigger?

Because of these experiences, she believes that a lot of Filipinos need to change their way of thinking that a brown-skinned girl going out with a foreigner is automatically a gold digger.
Minsan talaga kailangan mo lumaban sa matanda para matauhan eh.
Pero syempre, always say “po” and “opo” pa din kahit galit ka na. Ok?
