Missionary killed in a hail of arrows and buried in the sand by protected tribesmen

  • An American Missionary killed in India by protected tribesmen.
  • He believed that it was his calling to go to the remote island and convert the members of the indegenous group.

The missionary, John Allen Chau, have paid local fishermen to help him get to North Sentinel Island, which is one of the world’s most isolated regions in India’s Andaman islands.

Last week, Chau took a boat ride with the fishermen before canoeing alone to the island where the indigenous people live. The members are completely cut off from the outside world.

As soon as he set foot on the island, arrows welcomed him, but he kept on walking.

The tribesmen then tied a rope around his neck and dragged his body away.

Indian police has recorded the murder case against “unknown tribesmen”, along with seven people, including the fisherman that took him there, have been arrested on connection to his death.

The tribesmen who killed Chau won’t be prosecuted as they are protected and being in contact with them is illegal.

According to a friend, Chau wanted to go to the remote island and has been planning for the trip for the past three years.

William Stark, International Christian Concern‘s regional manager, paid tribute to Chau and condemned his killing.

“We here at International Christian Concern are extremely concerned by the reports of an American missionary being murdered in India’s Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Our thoughts and prayers go out to both John’s family and friends.

“A full investigation must be launched in this murder and those responsible must be brought to justice. India must take steps to counter the growing wave of intolerance and violence.”
