The Lily Camera: The flying selfie photographer

Take selfies to another level. This 2.5-pound flying camera is set to take the world of photography another step forward. Go closer of farther, move left or right, jump up or down—the Lily Camera will always keep you in frame. Best of all, it’s hands-free. The newest technology in photography and videography allows you to focus on your activity while the device focuses solely on you.

Don’t mistake it for a drone, though. Drones are designed for flying, i.e. aerial shots. The Lily Camera, however, is focused on its subjects. How did they do it? The flyer will use its built-in GPS to stay fixed on a little Lily tracking device worn on your wrist or in your pocket. Adding to this, the final Lily will have a computer vision system that will recognize your face and then work to always keep you in the frame. Yes, it may take quite some practice but to Lily Camera CEO Antonie Balaresque, it’ll be worth it.

“Fixed point cameras are limited by skills of the photographer,” Balaresque said. “A flying camera takes it to another level—much better footage.”

While the Lily Camera is still far from being a finished product available for consumer purchase, a prorotype  with limited communication and vision-tracking capabilities was launched in Manhattan, New York, and the results so far were impressive.

The Lily Camera is great all-around tool to have handy. Tough, too. The final version of the Lily Cam will be waterproof and even throw-proof.

Lily Camera will sell for $899 at retail, but the company is offering a steep discount for those who order early at $499.
