India heatwave is hot enough to melt roads

With the high temperatures Filipinos are currently enduring, it’s almost impossible to imagine if any other place can be hotter than the Philippines. But surprisingly, there is. The heatwave in India will actually make us appreciate the weather.

The heatwave taking over India is so bad, it has, in fact, already taken the lives of 1,400 individuals, most of the victims believed to be laborers, the elderly, and homeless people. The extreme 47-degree temperature is so hot that not only the roads have actually begun to melt, but wells have dried up and soil has been dried up to the point of cracking. The current conditions are being caused by a lack of rain combined with hot, dry winds from the desert state of Rajasthan. Climate change all over the world is also blamed for the difficult conditions.

In Delhi, the asphalt was actually turned into liquid with its 45-degree weather. The states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, however, have been hit the worst with 47 degrees and 1,270 deaths reported. Other heat-related deaths have also been reported in Gujarat, West Bengal, and Orissa.

Oddly enough, this severe heat were followed quickly by violent thunderstorms in some parts of the country, though temperatures are expected to remain at between 43 and 45 degrees for the next two weeks.

While everyone is advised to stay inside and do their best to keep cool and hydrated at all times, the elderly and the young are monitored more closely as they are at the greatest risk of dehydration, heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and deadly heat stroke.
