El Gamma Penumbra wins Asia’s Got Talent

Filipino shadow play group El Gamma Penumbra has been declared the winner of Asia’s Got Talent, with Filipino opera singer Gerphil Flores finishing third, and Khusugtun Ethnic Band – Хөсөгтөн хамтлаг from Mongolia coming in second.

El Gamma Penumbra’s performance in the grand finals of Asia’s Got Talent (SEE: WATCH: El Gamma Penumbra performs “Colors of the Wind” at the “Asia’s Got Talent” grand finals) cinched the deal as their performance made the judges emotional, most specially touching Anggun after they raised environmental awareness in their touching tribute to Mother Nature.

Batangas-based El Gamma Penumbra first competed in the Philippines in Pilipinas Got Talent Season 3 in 2012 where they placed fourth in the grand finals.

For their audition in Asia’s Got Talent, the shadow dance group showcased the different famous tourist spots around the world, mostly impressing judge Anggun from Indonesia who became teary-eyed and pressed her Golden Buzzer. Their world-peace themed shadow performance in the semi-finals again moved Anggun to tears and won the hearts of Asia’s Got Talent fans all over the region.

The group was awarded $100,000 and will have an opportunity to perform at the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore, aside from claiming the prestigious title.

Meanwhile, Gerphil Flores, who sang “Impossible Dream” in the grand finals, (SEE: WATCH: Gerphil Flores earns raves for her ‘The Impossible Dream’ performance at the “Asia’s Got Talent” grand finals) received her third standing ovation for her performance. The finals were predicted to be a close call between El Gamma Penumbra and Flores.

The other two Filipino acts in the finals were young singer Gwyneth Dorado and the dance group Junior New System. Other acts in the finals were from Singapore (Dance Thrilogy), Thailand (Talento), Mongolia (Khusugtun), China (Gao Lin and Liu Xin), and Japan (Triqstar).

Asia’s Got Talent is hosted by Marc Nelson and Rovilson Fernandez. Grammy-winning musician David Foster, Taiwanese-American pop idol Van Ness Wu, former Spice Girl Melanie C., and Indonesian music icon Anggun judged the competition.
