Being a teacher is one of the noblest jobs. They not only teach students because, despite their chosen profession, there are tons of other responsibilities assigned to them. Teachers have no other choice but to finish all the reports needed as part of their work obligations; sometimes without considering their own health.

A public school teacher named Gladys Arena Yabut-Lipata spoke out the struggles of a teacher on her Facebook account. She posted her photo when being hospitalized and captioned it: “Because I could not stop RPMS; RPMS stopped me.”

Akala ko matatapos kita kahapon, ako pala ang kamuntik mong tapusin.”

She was hospitalized because of over fatigue from doing all the paper work to submit it on due time.
While printing her RPMS (Result Based Management System) she suddenly felt dizzy, headache, and numbness of hands and feet and was brought immediately to the hospital as it wasn’t her first time to have such experience.

Una, sa private school na pinasukan ko habang nagche-check ako ng periodic tests ng apat na grade level na hawak ko. Tumaas din dugo ko. In private schools, we are not allowed to ask the students to check their papers. Kaya teachers’ burden pa rin.

Gladys is a newly hired public school teacher in November 2018, and to be a public school teacher was what she truly wanted. But then, she was shocked by what she experienced. She needed to adjust to the system because this is what she wanted.

Na-culture sh0ck ako sa mga bagay-bagay. Pero kailangan mag-adjust dahil ginusto ko ‘to,” according to Gladys.

Her nature of work in a private school was a lot more different in public school. Though she was already struggling with the changes, she still continued to do her job and responsibility as a public school teacher. With all her dedication and hard work, it saddened her that she has to be hospitalized, despite doing her best to finish all the paper works.

Sabi ng doktor sa stress, pagod nakuha. No need to give maintenance dahil di naman ako diagnosed na hypertensive. Iwasan na daw ang FORMS.”

Based on what happened to her, such will serve as a reminder to all hardworking and dedicated teachers.

Kaya this may serve as a reminder to all hardworking teachers. Hindi na po mababago ang bulok na sistema na meron tayo. Na pag makapal ang RPMS mo, mas magaling ka. That portfolio will not define the kind of teacher you are,” the educator explained.

Pahinga. Kailangan natin yan!” she added.

“Rest” is what all teachers need, especially during term breaks. This is to remind teachers, after sharing her experience on social media.
Gladys also reminded everyone that teachers also have other roles in life as being parents, sons/daughters, siblings and as a friend. These are the reasons why teachers should also take good care of their health.

Health is wealth!
