Marikina City LGU cracks down on extortion scheme; two aides arrested

In a statement, Mayor Teodoro reiterated the local government’s stance against abuse of authority and its full commitment to accountability.

The Marikina City Government, under the leadership of Mayor Maan Teodoro, has dismantled an alleged extortion operation within City Hall following the arrest of two administrative aides in an entrapment operation on Monday.

The suspects—a 38-year-old woman and a 59-year-old man—were apprehended in Barangay Fortune through a coordinated effort between the local government and the Philippine National Police (PNP).

Authorities said the two were caught onboard a government-issued vehicle after allegedly receiving ₱5,000 in marked money from a businessman. The operation stemmed from a formal complaint involving unauthorized collections reportedly linked to permit processing.

The suspects are now under police custody and are facing multiple charges, including robbery-extortion, coercion, and violations of Republic Act No. 3019.

According to initial findings, the entrapment was carried out following intelligence gathering prompted by the complainant’s report, leading to a targeted operation that resulted in the arrest.

Maan Teodoro emphasized the city government’s firm stance against corruption and abuse of authority.

“Malinaw ang paninindigan natin: walang kakilala, walang palakasan,” Mayor Teodoro said.

“Sisiguraduhin ko na sinumang empleyado na lalabag ay haharap sa kaso, matatanggal sa serbisyo, at pananagutin sa batas,” she added.

The Marikina LGU reiterated its commitment to accountability and transparency, stressing that all public servants will be held to strict ethical and legal standards regardless of position.
