Family of Ivan Ronquillo vows to seek justice

Sister declares: ‘We will stand for you and fight for your justice!’

The family of Ivan Cezar Ronquillo is mourning his death and has vowed to pursue justice after he was found lifeless on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, in the same residence where VMX actress and freelance model Gina Lima died three days earlier.

The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) confirmed that Ronquillo died by apparent suicide. His death came amid intense online criticism following widespread allegations that he was responsible for Lima’s passing.

Lima was found unresponsive in a condominium unit in Quezon City on November 16. Ronquillo, accompanied by his father, rushed her to a hospital, where she was declared dead on arrival. Initial police findings indicated cardiorespiratory distress, and an autopsy released on November 19 ruled out foul play, countering online claims that the actress died from alleged physical assault.

Before his death, Ronquillo shared several videos and photos on Facebook showing injuries on his face and body. In his final post, he mentioned a certain individual, saying (published as is): “Kay kevin tan yg maraming salamat sa ginawa mo sa mukha justice narin bahala sayo at maraming salamat sa pag kalat maling impormasyon.”

He also posted videos recalling memories with Lima and hinted at his emotional state following her death.

Ivan’s sister, Sheila Rodriguez, posted tributes online, sharing photos and their final moments together.

“You were hurting silently and the world didn’t hear you. Now that you’re gone, we promise, we will stand for you and fight for your justice,” Rodriguez wrote.

She added that they had dinner the night before his death and had a long conversation:
“Kagabi, magkasama pa tayo sa Morato… Ang sakit, Van… sobra. Mahal na mahal kita, kapatid ko.”

Ronquillo’s remains are now at San Fernando Funeral Homes in Kaingin Road, Quezon City.

In later posts, Rodriguez thanked those sending condolences and reiterated their commitment to pursue accountability once their family has had time to grieve: “We will not allow justice to be denied… All of your concerns regarding what Ivan went through will be addressed.”

Former COMELEC Commissioner Rowena Guanzon publicly criticized content creator Valentine Rosales, one of those who earlier accused Ronquillo of assaulting Lima.

Guanzon said Rosales’ posts contributed to the pressure and distress experienced by Ronquillo, who denied the allegations before his death.

In a Facebook post (published as is), Guanzon wrote: “Kaka-clout chase niyang Valentine Rosales na yan ay may nagpakamatay na tao… Sa pamilya ng lalaki, idemanda niyo yan para magtanda. Tutulong po ako.”

Guanzon also referenced Rosales’ previous involvement in the 2020 Christine Dacera case, where he was initially tagged but later cleared after autopsy findings showed no foul play.

“Bakla, tigil mo kasi yang laro ng galing-galingan… hintayin mo na lang love letter mo,” Guanzon added.

Rosales has since deleted his posts about Ronquillo. In a statement on social media, he said he reacted emotionally based on information he received from acquaintances.

“Biktima din ako ng mis-information… tulad ninyo ay isa rin akong biktima,” he said.

He also shared that he sought an emergency psychiatric consultation on Wednesday afternoon due to the mental toll of the incident.

As of this writing, Rosales’ camp has not issued an official statement regarding the calls for legal action.

Rodriguez acknowledged Guanzon’s support, saying their family has been receiving numerous screenshots, videos, and statements from individuals wanting to help.

“Makikipagtulungan po kami sa inyo… Para kay Ivan. Para sa totoo. Para sa hustisya na hindi niya nakuha,” she said.

Authorities remind the public that suicide is a serious issue.
