Claudine Co under fire for “No Utang na Loob” comment amid Flood Control Scandal

In one now-viral vlog, she and her friends dined at a Bonifacio Global City hotel, racking up a ₱938,000 dinner bill in a single night.

Claudine Co, daughter of businessman Christopher Co of Hi-Tone Construction and Development Corporation, is facing heavy criticism online after a defiant remark she made in response to questions about her lavish lifestyle.

“LIKE, hello? Wala kaming utang na loob sa mga Pilipino, okay? This is not from taxpayers’ money, the Government literally paid us for the service that our business provided. Gets?” Co said, in a statement that quickly went viral.

Hi-Tone Construction is among the top 15 contractors flagged by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for bagging billions worth of Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) flood control projects, many of which are now under investigation following widespread flooding. Her uncle, Ako Bicol Rep. Zaldy Co, also chairs Sunwest Group of Companies, another firm on the list.

Co, who grew up in Manila but hails from Bicol, rose to fame as a lifestyle YouTuber with millions of followers. She often showcased her mansions, luxury fashion, and travels across more than 38 countries.

With Filipinos questioning why billions in flood control funds appear to have failed, her displays of wealth quickly turned into fuel for outrage. Instead of clarifying the issue, Co’s defensive remark only intensified criticism, with netizens pointing out that government payments ultimately come from taxpayers.

Adding to the controversy, internet personality Xian Gaza alleged in a Facebook post that one political scion—whom many suspect to be Co—closed a bank account containing ₱210 million ahead of possible Senate hearings. Gaza claimed the money was moved into multiple corporate accounts and redeposited over-the-counter in cash to avoid a paper trail.

Following the uproar, Co has since deactivated all her social media accounts, including her YouTube and Instagram.

Dailypedia remains open to publish Co’s side of the story.
