Ivana Alawi gives Jay Fai’s Michelin-starred restaurant a ‘so-so’ rating

Ivana did, however, acknowledge the crab omelet’s rich flavor, packed with crab meat, and required no further dissection for enjoyment.

Kapamilya star Ivana Alawi recently shared her dining experience at Jay Fai’s celebrated restaurant in Bangkok, Thailand.

Jay Fai’s restaurant is famous for its Michelin-starred cuisine and is a hotspot for tourists visiting the area.

Despite its unassuming appearance, Ivana expressed her amazement at the restaurant’s Michelin star, signifying exceptional culinary quality. A Netflix documentary had previously showcased the restaurant and its owner/chef, Jay Fai, known for her signature “crab omelet” that draws eager crowds of diners.

Ivana described how she and her companions arrived at the restaurant as early as 6:00 AM to secure a place in line, as the restaurant does not accept reservations, leading to long queues.

While Ivana had high expectations, she initially responded to the famous crab omelet with a somewhat lukewarm “Puwede na…,” indicating that it didn’t meet her lofty anticipations. She gave the dish a rating of 7 out of 10.

Ivana did, however, acknowledge the crab omelet’s rich flavor, packed with crab meat, and required no further dissection for enjoyment. Her manager, Perry Lansigan, held a more favorable view, giving the experience a rating of 9 out of 10.

Aside from the crab omelet, Ivana and her group sampled various other dishes from Jay Fai’s menu. They tried the “tom yum,” but Ivana found it excessively salty, akin to fish sauce, resulting in her giving it a less favorable rating.

In summary, Ivana characterized her restaurant experience as enjoyable but not perfect. She expressed her appreciation for Jay Fai’s daily cooking efforts but did not find the experience life-altering. She ultimately gave the restaurant a rating of 8 out of 10.

Despite finding the food tasty, Ivana noted that certain dishes were excessively salty for her palate. She maintained a preference for Filipino dishes like “bulalo” and “sinigang.”

Ivana was surprised by the bill, which amounted to approximately P35,000 when converted to Philippine pesos for her group of six diners. She appeared taken aback by the bill’s total, but she did appreciate the overall dining experience.
