Benevolent Mother Nature Solves Human Problems with Waste through an Plastic-eating Insect

Everyone knows that nature is at risk because of human activities that are harmful for the environment. As a matter of fact, there are already some threats that most people are aware of such as global warming and other environmental issues.

For this reason, a lot of environmental groups made an initiative to help the nature regain what is lost by engaging in tree planting, coastal cleaning and more.

Mother Nature seemed to have acknowledged everyone’s efforts and decided to throw in some help.

Scientists from Cambridge University just discovered the greatest tool to get rid of human’s problem with non-biodegradable plastics.

Galleria Mellonella is a greater wax moth of which larva can actually consume and break down plastic, as a matter of fact being consumed by the insect regularly. Surprisingly, the moth’s digestive system breaks down the chemical bonds of polyethylene.

However, it isn’t advisable to throw in all the plastic trash in front of these insects as the scientists still needs to fully understand why and how they are able to do consume such object.

Surely, it would be a great help to completely eliminate plastic and save the environment while everyone still can.

On the contrary, we cannot fully leave it to the insects to consume this kind of waste every time. We should still make an effort to contribute in helping our environment by trying to lessen the huge volume of plastic we use for our daily lives.
