WATCH: Traffic enforcer refuses to accept bribe from a name-dropping motorist

MANILA, Philippines. An unnamed traffic enforcer has earned praises from netizens after refusing to accept a bribe from a name-dropping motorist who committed a traffic violation. The whole incident was caught on video that was posted on Facebook by netizen Lenard Bernardo.

After noticing that the driver in question was loading passengers in an area which was not assigned for loading and unloading, the traffic enforcer immediately stopped the vehicle (which turned out to be operating as a colorum vehicle) near the border of Pasig City and Cainta. The traffic enforcer politely asked for the driver’s license.

Thinking that name-dropping would save him from the consequences of his traffic violation, the driver claimed that he had connections to Senator JV Ejercito. He also mentioned that he was going to have the senator call Pasig Mayor Maribel Eusebio about the violation. He even warned the traffic enforcer that he would risk losing his job if he issues a ticket.

Pag tinekitan mo ito, di ko lang alam kung magkakatrabaho ka pa,” the driver was heard saying in the video.

(If you will issue ticket, you may be at risk of losing your job.)

Wala hong problema, Sir. Sanay naman po ako ng walang trabaho.” the traffic enforcer told him.

(That’s not a problem since I’m used to being jobless.)

Based on the video, it was not the driver’s first offense as he was apparently let go with just a warning in a previous incident.

In a Facebook post, Sen. Ejercito clarified that he is in no way connected to the driver in the said viral video. Although the driver he identified as Jun is a resident of San Juan, Sen. Ejercito stressed that Jun never worked for him.
