Netizen offers one-of-a-kind solution to NAIA’s ‘tanim-bala’ culprits

To warn perpetrators of the bullet planting or tanim-bala scam at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3, netizen Julian Lance decided to decorate his luggage with a photo Davao City Mayor Rodrigo “Rody” Duterte’s face and a quote: “Ipapakain ko sa inyo iyang bala.” (I’ll make you eat that bullet.)

Lance shared photos of himself toting the eye-catching luggage at the airport on Facebook on Friday, November 6. His post quickly captured the attention of netizens, getting more than 2,000 likes and almost 1,500 shares as of this writing.

Known for being a tough talker, Duterte warned culprits of the tanim-bala scheme that he will make them eat the bullets as punishment.

In his weekly television program Gikan sa Masa, Para sa Masa last Sunday, November 1, Duterte said in Cebuano, “I don’t have the ambition to become the president, but if I am the president, I will let you swallow those bullets even if it means death.”

A report by Inquirer on Thursday, November 5, revealed that an extortion ring was victimizing overseas Filipino workers (OFW) and elderly passengers by planting bullets in their bags as well as harassing them by questioning their travel papers and other documents.

“Each unit has an assigned task and roles, its members are recruited by longtime workers in the four airport terminals,” a source from NBI told Inquirer.

“The syndicate is composed of various airport workers such as immigration personnel, airport police, X-ray scanners, baggage inspectors and porters,” the source added.
