He just felt like it. “Trip lang,” was the chilling reason 19-year-old Ruben Jalaman gave to police when asked why he stabbed his own 85-year-old grandmother to death then proceeded to eat her entire heart raw.
The gruesome crime happened at the grandmother’s house in Purok Kabukiran, a mountain village in Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental. Neighbors of the 85-year-old Olivia Jalaman were awakened from their sleep at around 2 a.m., Tuesday morning, after hearing screams and cries for help coming from the elderly Jalaman’s house.
Concerned neighbors started investigating the noise at around 5 a.m. The victim’s lifeless body with her chest ripped open was what greeted them at the site. Village watchmen and police officers were then summoned to the scene. Police found the younger Jalaman home and he calmly confessed to the heinous act.
In an interview with GMA News, Kabankalan City police chief German Garbosa said, “Bukas raw ang pintuan kaya tinignan ng mga kapit-bahay. Gumamit ng kutsilyo, tapos sabi niya kinain raw niya ang puso. Tinanong ko nga kung niluto pa, hindi raw.” (The door was open so the neighbors took a peek. He said he used a knife and ate the heart. I even asked if he cooked it, he said no.)
Garbosa adds that Jalaman will now undergo drug and psychiatric tests.
