The local government of Marikina City has approved a series of tax relief measures aimed at easing the financial burden on residents and small businesses, including a 100 percent tax exemption for sari-sari stores and carinderias for tax year 2026, as well as a full amnesty on interests and surcharges for delinquent real property taxes.

Marikina City Mayor Maan Teodoro signed the ordinances on Monday, January 19, 2026, following the city council’s approval of policies designed to support micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and protect household livelihoods.
Under the ordinance, sari-sari stores and carinderias that do not sell alcohol or cigarettes are exempt from paying business taxes, business permit fees, and other local regulatory charges from January 1 to December 31, 2026. Establishments selling liquor or cigarettes are not covered by the exemption.
Qualified sari-sari stores and carinderias will be issued certificates of exemption by the Business Permits and Licensing Office (BPLO).
In addition, the city government approved a 100 percent amnesty on interests and surcharges for delinquent real property taxpayers until July 2026. Taxpayers may settle their unpaid obligations either in full or through staggered payments during the amnesty period.
The Marikina LGU also extended the business permit renewal deadline from January 20 to February 28, 2026, without imposing penalties or surcharges.
According to the mayor, the measures are part of the city’s broader efforts to strengthen MSMEs and ensure economic resilience among Marikina households.
