Managing diabetes doesn’t have to feel overwhelming — it can be empowering. As the world marks the 34th year of World Diabetes Day, Watsons Philippines reaffirms its commitment to making diabetes care simpler and more supportive for every Filipino.

To highlight this advocacy, Watsons launched its #KahitAnongTYPEmo event on November 15 at Watsons SM North EDSA The Grand, bringing together patients, caregivers, and advocates to learn, connect, and take meaningful steps toward better health. The celebration served as both an educational platform and a community-building activity, helping normalize conversations about diabetes and encouraging Filipinos to take charge of their wellness.
The event featured expert talks by Diabetes Philippines Inc., free doctor consultations, free blood glucose testing, obesity screening, and chronic kidney disease screening. These were all designed to equip patients, families, and caregivers with practical knowledge and tools to better manage diabetes and related conditions.
“Watsons believes that awareness and early detection are key to better diabetes care. Through #KahitAnongTYPEmo, we aim to provide a safe, supportive space where Filipinos can learn, ask questions, and take proactive steps toward better health,” said Joweeh B. Liao, Director of the Health Business Unit, Finance, Property, and Store Development of Watsons Philippines.
Recognizing that pharmacists play a vital role in patient education and long-term care, Watsons and Diabetes Philippines have also partnered to implement the Diabetes Educator Training Program for Watsons pharmacists nationwide. This initiative helps pharmacists provide better guidance to customers, empowering them with credible advice and practical support for diabetes prevention and management.

“Through our partnership with Diabetes Philippines, we equipped our pharmacists with deeper knowledge and empathy. They not only dispense medicines but also become trusted partners in every customer’s health journey, especially when it comes to diabetes,” added Liao.
According to the International Diabetes Federation, about 4.7 million Filipino adults are living with diabetes, and this number continues to rise. By investing in health education and accessible services, Watsons aims to make care not only available but also understandable and empowering for every Filipino.
Watsons and its brand partners offered simultaneous free health services, including doctor consultations, blood pressure checks, glucose testing, and chronic kidney disease screening to customers at Watsons SM North EDSA branches: The Block, Annex, and Main
Beyond the event, Watsons continues to promote holistic and inclusive healthcare through its over 1,200 stores nationwide, many open late or 24/7, and its Watsons App, which allows customers to shop online, choose in-store pickup, or have their medicines delivered right to their doorstep within hours.
“At Watsons, we are focused on empowering people through education — helping them understand their risks, make informed choices, and take control of their lifestyle and condition. Our commitment to helping Filipinos Look Good, Do Good, and Feel Great is reflected in the consistent work we do in our stores, on our online platforms, and through our Alagang Pangkalusugan medical missions, where we provide weight and obesity screening, glucose checks, CKD screening, and free doctor consultations to communities that need it most.”, said Sharon Decapia, Senior AVP for Marketing, PR & Sustainability of Watsons Philippines.
As Watsons celebrates World Diabetes Day, it continues to live its purpose: to help everyone look good, do good, and feel great every day. This commitment is strengthened through partnerships with organizations and brands dedicated to diabetes care, including Diabetes Philippines Incorporated and AstraZeneca, Watsons Generics, Novo Nordisk, Abbott Philippines, MedChoice, Stada, Diabetasol, Interphil Laboratories, Zuellig Pharma, and Roche Philippines.
