Marikina restaurant offers free snacks to drivers, riders amid oil price surge

Known for its community efforts, Trining’s Kitchen Stories was among the first to organize a soup kitchen in Marikina City during the pandemic. It also recently conducted a Bayanihan soup kitchen for residents affected by Typhoon Crising.

A community-driven initiative is once again making a difference in Marikina City, as Trining’s Kitchen Stories rolls out free snacks for public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers and delivery riders affected by rising fuel costs.

The Marikina-based restaurant announced that it will distribute free merienda on April 6, 7, 8, and 10 to drivers of buses, jeepneys, and tricycles, as well as delivery riders from platforms such as Grab, Joyride, Lalamove, and J&T.

Distribution starts at 4 p.m. and will run until supplies last at its location along Gil Fernando Avenue in Barangay Sto. Niño, near the Good Friend Bridge and the Marikina Engineering compound—an area also known for its Car-Free Sunday Zumba sessions.

On its first day alone, April 6, the initiative served 250 free meals.

The effort aims to provide immediate relief to transport workers and riders who continue to grapple with financial strain following a sharp increase in oil prices linked to tensions in the Middle East.

Trining’s Kitchen Stories has built a reputation for grassroots community support. During the COVID-19 pandemic, it was among the first in Marikina to organize a soup kitchen. More recently, it also launched a Bayanihan soup kitchen for residents affected by Typhoon Crising.

The restaurant is currently accepting donations to sustain the initiative and encourage more community members to take part in helping those in need.
