Michael Cinco criticizes Filipino celebrities for seeking free outfits from local designers

His call for recognition and equitable treatment reverberates throughout the fashion realm, underscoring the imperative of supporting and valuing local talent.

Dubai-based Filipino fashion luminary Michael Cinco has taken to social media to address a prevalent issue within the fashion industry – the expectation of Filipino celebrities and influencers for complimentary outfits from local designers.

Through a series of Instagram Stories, Cinco articulated his frustration over the lack of acknowledgment and appreciation for Filipino designers.

Cinco pointed out the paradox of witnessing these personalities splurge on high-end European designer attire while simultaneously expecting Filipino designers to furnish custom-made ensembles without compensation.

“It’s quite ironic how these celebrities proudly wear these designer clothes, but when it comes to Filipino designers, they suddenly want everything custom-made for them for FREE,” Cinco remarked.

He underscored the hurdles encountered by Filipino designers who invest considerable time and effort in crafting unique and exquisite pieces, only to find themselves undervalued and underpaid in return. Cinco stressed the imperative to recognize and uplift local talent, asserting that Filipino designers possess the potential to rival any European brand in terms of creativity and craftsmanship.

In response to those seeking complimentary wedding gowns or red carpet dresses, Cinco issued a resolute statement, declaring, “WHAT A WONDERFUL LIFE… BEAUTIFUL THINGS in this world are not FREE… In other words… MAGBAYAD KA!!!” This stance underscores his belief in the necessity of fair compensation for designers’ labor.

With two decades of experience in the industry, Cinco’s designs have graced the forms of numerous global luminaries, including Beyonce, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, Tyra Banks, Naomi Campbell, and Aishwarya Rai.
