Doja Cat reveals hidden meaning behind new song ‘Balut’

American rapper Doja Cat has explained why she named her new song ‘Balut’, with netizens speculating it could be related to a Filipino street food.

American rapper and singer Doja Cat recently dropped a new song titled ‘Balut,’ causing quite a stir among fans who were curious about the unconventional choice of name.

Speculations abounded, with some even speculating that it might be related to the famous Filipino street food of the same name.

However, in a recent Instagram story posted on a Saturday, Doja Cat decided to unravel the mystery behind the song’s intriguing title.

She provided insight into the metaphorical significance of ‘Balut,’ explaining that it symbolizes a bird undergoing the harrowing process of being consumed alive. Interestingly, she drew a parallel between this metaphor and the rampant toxicity often encountered on the Twitter platform, which has come to be known colloquially as ‘X.’

Doja Cat’s explanation shed light on her creative choice, stating, “(I) named the song ‘balut’ because it signifies a bird that’s being eaten alive. It’s a metaphor for Twitter stans and the death of Twitter toxicity. The beginning of ‘X’ and the end of ‘tweets’,” offering a deeper understanding of her artistic vision.

Doja Cat has been making significant strides in the music industry, with her latest single, ‘Paint The Town Red,’ recently achieving her first solo No. 1 position on the prestigious Billboard Hot 100 charts.

This achievement was particularly noteworthy as the song ascended from No. 3 to secure the top spot after spending five weeks on the charts.

The artist, renowned for her chart-topping hits on TikTok, has been experiencing a meteoric rise in her career, bolstered by her latest studio album, ‘Planet Her.’

In addition to her commercial success, Doja Cat has also garnered critical acclaim, including a Grammy award for her collaboration with SZA on ‘Kiss Me More.’ This track won the Grammy for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, marking a significant milestone as it was the first Grammy win for both Doja Cat and SZA.
