Dermatologist urges people to not to use clindamycin to treat acne

  • Frequent use of antibiotics will make bacteria resistant to it
  • Only use antibiotics for acne with a prescription

Dermatologist @thenerdyderma urges people to not use antibiotics such as clindamycin without a prescription. She says that the bacteria Cutibacterium which causes acne builds up a resistance to the antibiotic every time a person uses clindamycin.

So using clindamycin over time will render it useless when the bacteria becomes invulnerable to it.

Users might develop similar to pimples but are caused by more virulent bacteria called gram-negative folliculitis.

Some low-level bacteria can be eliminated by antibiotics such as amoxicillin.

But people have been using them too often which is why these bacteria are evolving and becoming more resistant.

These highly resistant bacteria were once weak but managed to evolve. Now medicines like methicillin and vancomycin rarely kill them.

Bacteria like anaerobes, gram negatives, atypical mycobacteria are even harder to kill as users who have them need more expensive treatments.

@thenerdyderma is really against self-medication of oral antibiotics which can kill the good bacteria in your body.

She advises that one seek a physician before taking any antibiotics.

Studies have shown that clindamycin can cause abdominal pain, skin rashes, burning sensation, and skin peeling.
