The foulest smell in the world can cause ‘nausea and blackouts’ even from a 100-meter distance

  • What is the smelliest odor in the world?
  • The foulest smell on the planet can cause sickness and fainting

In the recent feature of PlayGround + on Facebook, they tackled about the smelliest substance existing on the planet.

‘It’s not anywhere’

Do you think it’s fart? A stinky sock?

It’s far from all our imagination. It’s actually a chemical compound that no one wants to synthesize. Why? Because in its 100-meter radius, its odor is enough to make someone experience vomiting and blackouts.

It’s called thioacetone. This chemical is classified non-toxic but due to its harmfulness, it was considered as dangerous.

Playground + also cited a situation in 1889 where a group of Germans in Freiburg im Breisgau tried to use it at a chemical plant. Unsuccessfully, not only the group suffered from its horrible effects, but the whole town actually did too. The townspeople were evacuated due to vomiting and fainting.

Fun fact

One drop of thioacetone can fill and stink out a 50 sq. m. room. Imagine? But wait there’s more. Its smell will take up weeks to disappear. Insane, right?

It’s also considered as the queen of organosulfur compounds. A chemical family that is known for excreting horrible odors.

Now, do you want to smell it first hand?
