If you have seen the historical biopic film Heneral Luna, then the name “Felipe Buencamino” definitely rings a bell. He once served as a judge for the Spanish government, but later on sided with the Filipino camp after being jailed by the Spanish in Cavite. After earning a seat on Emilio Aguinaldo’s Cabinet, Buencamino eventually sided with the Americans. In one of the Cabinet meetings, General Antonio Luna, who was known for his short temper, slapped and called Buencamino a coward after the latter proposed to negotiate with the Americans. On the day of Luna’s death, Buencamino got into a heated argument with the former.
