Employee benefits we all want: Here’s our top 10 list

6.  Career Development

The study reveals that workplace-sponsored career development is becoming a benefit that is somewhat decreasing at companies, due to lack of demand from employees. Even so, companies are still encouraged to keep their workers’ skills updated and honed. Employees greatly appreciate the company paying for tuition and enrollment fees for various courses and classes.

7. Business Travel Perks

Travel will always be a part of business, whether to a convention, an expo, or such. Employees want to make sure they get reimbursed when booking hotel rooms, taxi rides, airfare, and much more while away from the office. Even better, employees prefer all these being booked in advance so they don’t have to spend a single peso–other than their own personal expenses, of course. This benefit also includes paid cellphone credits for those updates and calls to supervisors and clients.

8.  Relocation Benefits

Unfortunately, in the study, the percentage of employers offering spouse relocation assistance and temporary relocation benefits has dropped. Many fail to get the job they apply for when they find out they’ll be assigned to a different place. Not many employees are willing to switch their residence for a new job or even to remain with a company that has decided to move its headquarters or offices to a new location. So it’s a big deal and a great loyalty-clincher for employees when employers offer relocation benefits like rent expenses or housing allowances.

9. Employee-Focused Community Programs

Remember in school how fond we were of joining clubs and groups? The same goes in any office or business situation. Many employees are hobbyists, sports enthusiasts, and such. Companies that offer community programs like company-sponsored sports teams, photography clubs, triathlon groups, and more, recruit more employees who wish to work and yet still have time to do their thing with the blessing of their employers.

Other than community groups, employers can also offer outside-the-office services like travel planning, postal/shipping services, onsite dry cleaning, daycare, and other options that help employees settle into their communities.

10. Compensation Bonuses

This is probably the top perk any employee can hope to get. While employees look for a good enough base pay, many hope that there are other cash incentives and compensation. However, some companies have exhibited a sizeable decrease in compensation benefits offered to employees from 2010 to 2014. These benefits include savings plans, incentive bonus plans for executives, educational assistance, and more. Any cash benefits that a company can offer will always be the attractive to prospective  employees. Top-level candidates, in particular, will feel their hard work in school will be paid off better with additional compensation. Not to mention the more hardworking employees will be buoyed with the promise of a few–or maybe a lot–extra pesos.

The needs and values of people constantly change. What can be huge come-ons at present may not be the same in the next five or 10 or 20 years. Nonetheless, employers should always be on the lookout for the new trends. Human resource divisions should make regular reviews of what perks employees look for in a company and what reasons former employees had for leaving Who knows? A little research and a little analysis could lead to getting your company the ideal employee and let them sleep better knowing they’re being paid for what they’re worth.
