INC Media on Instagram: ‘This is War and There is No Neutral Ground’

The Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) group posted on their official Instagram account a cryptic message about war and enemies. On August 28, 2015, INC Media posted a photo on Instagram with the statement, “This is war and there is no neutral ground. If you’re not on my side, you’re the enemy. If you’re not helping, you’re making things worse.” This message was posted at a time when INC’s protest on EDSA has been earning widespread criticism for causing major traffic jams.

On August 27, 2015, INC held a protest in front of the Department of Justice (DOJ) along Padre Faura in Manila. This was to protest against DOJ secretary Leila de Lima “meddling” in church affairs by looking into the case filed by an expelled INC minister Isaias Samson Jr. for illegal detention allegations against INC leaders.

According to Edwil Zabala, INC’s spokesperson, INC members moved their protest to EDSA because of people who tried to mess with them. He said in an interview with Rappler, that they only wanted to have a peaceful vigil, however, there were some people who tried to cause trouble for the INC protesters. He said that some members were misinformed and thought the vigil-rally was cancelled, which prompted them to hold the rally on EDSA. He also stated that they were only “pushed” to rally in EDSA due to the circumstances they are facing now.

Zabala also stated that they have already acquired a permit to protest until August 31, 2015 and asked the public to understand their issues. He stressed that the INC would not have held a protest had the government heeded their pleas to be fair in implementing legal processes.

As to whom the Instagram warning was referring to, the INC has yet to release more details.
